.DISCUSSION... Issued at 435 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
The upper pattern has Nebraska and the central CONUS under the influence of a ridge wedged between two closed lows on either side. At the surface, a ridge of high pressure kept skies mostly cloud free and winds light and generally variable on Thursday, though southerly winds were most common. Some surface smoke has been draped across the area with very little of the smoke noted above 5,000ft AGL. The 06Z RAP does suggest the smoke will clear Saturday morning. The same model run suggests even denser smoke from the PacNW will find its way into the area on Sunday.
Temperatures this morning are generally in the 50s and 60s and fog has been reluctant to develop beyond the occasional dip in visibility reported at KICL. Guidance suggests some patchy fog may develop along the Missouri River around sunrise. Most morning commuters can expect visibility not to be impacted.
Overall, today`s weather should be a near repeat of Thursday`s conditions which should lend itself to a pleasant Friday. Expect mostly sunny skies marred only by a bit of surface smoke. Those sensitive to the smoke may want to postpone heading outdoors until after lunch if possible. Highs will again peak nearly 10F above normal.
A trof passage is progged for Saturday morning, turning southerly winds out of the north for about 18 hours. Again, the wildfire smoke in the area is expected to be replenished. The bulk of the CAA will be well to the north, but Saturday`s highs may slip a few degrees before rebounding by Sunday and holding steady through much of next week, too. The H5 ridging is anticipated to rebuild and bring back the dry, warm, and relatively boring weather as we turn the page on September. Even the CPC`s day 6-10 and day 8-14 temperature outlooks lean warm (but not dry!).
The next best chance of precipitation may wait for day 8 of the forecast (Friday the 3rd) when 00Z global models suggest a trof and surface cold front push through the central CONUS.
