.DISCUSSION... Issued at 217 AM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
Early this morning, the central plains remains on the back side of an elongated deep layer trough extending from New England to the western Gulf coast. The southern portion of this trough is forecast to be cutoff from the main flow, and will serve as a blocking mechanism that will slow the wave train that has kept the region so active over the past month or so. As such, a fairly strong mid/upper ridge will stall over the central plains this weekend and into early next week, pinched in between cutoff upper lows over the Desert Southwest and the southeastern CONUS. This will keep temperatures a bit on the warmer side, and will likely keep most rain chances at bay over the next week or so.
With that being said, some tropical antics in the Atlantic could cause some upstream impacts to the overall pattern that will need to be monitored as this could open the door for some low rain chances around the middle or latter portions of next week. Regardless, temperatures from today through Thursday are generally expected to remain around the low to mid 80s in the afternoon, and the upper 50s to low 60s overnight, which is just a touch above average for this time of year.
