...New AVIATION...
.NEAR TERM... (Today) Issued at 404 AM CDT Sun Sep 7 2025
The cold front that brought rain to the local forecast area yesterday has pushed east and cooler and drier air is gradually filtering in from the NW. Some post frontal cloud cover can be seen on satellite imagery in far NE AL with clear skies further to the east. Drier air and some light winds around 5 mph appear to be holding off fog development early this morning, but would not be surprised to see some isolated patches of fog along area bodies of water. As we progress through the day, a nice taste of fall with sunshine only raising temperatures into the upper 70s to around 80F. Gradient winds should help increase wind gusts this afternoon to around 15 mph.

.SHORT TERM... (Sunday night through Tuesday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025
Even drier air is expected to be in place Sunday night. This and a tighter pressure gradient between the strong surface high to our NNW and a weak area of low pressure area over the Florida peninsula should keep fog from developing after midnight. Lows should be even cooler with stronger cold/dry air advection expected with the tightened surface pressure gradient. Lows in the lower to mid 50s look reasonable with maybe some upper 40s possible.
Guidance does lift the surface low over the Florida peninsula northeast off the Atlantic coast east of South Carolina early next week. This will likely increase boundary layer moisture a bit. However, Monday afternoon should still feel very much like fall with highs only topping out in the upper 70s to lower 80s again.
Lows Monday night will likely drop back into the mid 50s to lower 60s again with weak low level boundary layer moisture advection occurring. Tuesday looks warmer, as the amplitude of the upper level trough axis aloft decreases and sunshine remains abundant. Still not bad for this time of year though with highs on Tuesday only climbing into the lower to mid 80s.

.LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Saturday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025
Tuesday night looks very similar to Monday night with winds becoming light after midnight and clear skies expected. The dry air in place should keep fog from forming. By Wednesday, highs look to climb into the mid to upper 80s again. So getting hotter again, but remaining dry.
The pattern doesn`t change much towards the end of next week with the upper level trough axis over the east continuing to lift and weaken. A stronger area of upper level ridging developing over the central portion of the CONUS edges closer to the area. Main change will be increasing hot conditions towards next weekend. Highs should climb back into the upper 80s to lower 90s in most areas. It still will be fairly dry though, so not overly oppressive heat index values expected. Lows should continue to warm a tad into the 60 to 65 degree range in most areas.
