.DISCUSSION... Satellite imagery from this evening shows a nearly cloudless sky across southwest Idaho and southeast Oregon, with any convective clouds confined to the Sawooth Mountains. Northeast flow aloft is spreading a thin layer of Canadian smoke into the area. Enough residual moisture may be in place to support localized pockets of fog Wednesday morning in high elevation mountain valleys.

.PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night...Amplification of an upper ridge over the Intermountain West will bring a stretch of dry and warm weather to the region. Temperatures will be on the rise through Thursday with highs ranging 5-10 degrees above normal which will put lower elevations into the mid-80s. Winds will remain light and terrain driven through the period. Expect coverage of mtn valley fog to decrease with each passing day as a drier air mass sets in over the area.
LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...Clouds will increase on Friday as an upper trough tracks along the NW US/Canadian border as a second low pressure system along the central CA coast lifts northward. These features will increase moisture over the region late Fri/Sat, introducing a 10-15% chance of afternoon showers/thunderstorms across SE Oregon and the along ID/NV border. This threat shifts to the e-central Oregon and w-central Idaho mtns on Sunday as an upper trough pushes in from the coast. A period of brief ridging brings a break from any precipitation early next week with a chance of rain returning late Tuesday. Temperatures are above normal through the period.
