...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.NEAR TERM... (Rest of tonight and Sunday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

Skies have cleared in portions of NW Alabama and portions of Lincoln and Moore counties in Tennessee. Calm winds have developed in these areas as well. This will likely allow for some quick fog development over NW ALabama and southern middle Tennessee between now and midnight. After midnight, cloud cover should push south of most areas in northern Alabama, as winds likely become lighter further south. However, drier air should push southward more quickly after midnight into the daybreak hours. This should help to decrease fog coverage and keep dense fog from forming. However, some patchy fog could linger towards daybreak especially in sheltered valley locations. This drier air should allow lows to drop into the mid to upper 50s in many areas, with some lows around 60 degrees possible lingering in Marshall or Dekalb counties.

It should be a really nice afternoon with little or no cloud cover expected. Winds will pick back up to between 5 and 10 mph from the NNE with some gusts up to 15 mph possible.

.SHORT TERM... (Sunday night through Tuesday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

Even drier air is expected to be in place Sunday night. This and a tighter pressure gradient between the strong surface high to our NNW and a weak area of low pressure area over the Florida peninsula should keep fog from developing after midnight. Lows should be even cooler with stronger cold/dry air advection expected with the tightened surface pressure gradient. Lows in the lower to mid 50s look reasonable with maybe some upper 40s possible.

Guidance does lift the surface low over the Florida peninsula northeast off the Atlantic coast east of South Carolina early next week. This will likely increase boundary layer moisture a bit. However, Monday afternoon should still feel very much like fall with highs only topping out in the upper 70s to lower 80s again.

Lows Monday night will likely drop back into the mid 50s to lower 60s again with weak low level boundary layer moisture advection occurring. Tuesday looks warmer, as the amplitude of the upper level trough axis aloft decreases and sunshine remains abundant. Still not bad for this time of year though with highs on Tuesday only climbing into the lower to mid 80s.

.LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Saturday) Issued at 1050 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

Tuesday night looks very similar to Monday night with winds becoming light after midnight and clear skies expected. The dry air in place should keep fog from forming. By Wednesday, highs look to climb into the mid to upper 80s again. So getting hotter again, but remaining dry.

The pattern doesn`t change much towards the end of next week with the upper level trough axis over the east continuing to lift and weaken. A stronger area of upper level ridging developing over the central portion of the CONUS edges closer to the area. Main change will be increasing hot conditions towards next weekend. Highs should climb back into the upper 80s to lower 90s in most areas. It still will be fairly dry though, so not overly oppressive heat index values expected. Lows should continue to warm a tad into the 60 to 65 degree range in most areas.

.AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 641 PM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

MVFR to IFR CIGS are expected to continue at times through 01Z. By 02Z, expect VFR CIGS to continue through 06Z at both terminals. Winds should remain around 5 or 6 knots and gust a bit to around 12 knots at times, as a trough axis moves through the area. Winds and drier air moving into the area should keep fog at bay tonight. Winds should increase to between 10 and 15 knots with gusts to around 20 knots.
