Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1235 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM... (Rest of Today and Tonight) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

The general synoptic pattern consists of a longwave ridge with embedded shortwave impulses in place for much of the CONUS east of the Rocky Mountains, all while an upper trough digs atop the Pacific Coast. An expansive area of surface high pressure centered along the New England Coast will continue to promote dry conditions locally. Slightly above normal afternoon temperatures will cool to seasonal normals owing to clear skies and light winds tonight.

&&

.SHORT TERM... (Friday through Sunday) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

The aforementioned high pressure with continued below normal PWAT values will promote dry conditions and near to slightly above normal temperatures through the weekend. The most notable change will take place Sunday as H85 flow enhances to 15-20kts and becomes more oriented from the ESE. The increasing moisture advection will allow dewpoints to climb back into the 60s. Sunday afternoon will likely feel a bit more muggy relative to the previous few days as a result.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Sunday night through Thursday) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

As the previously mentioned trough and an attendant front progresses eastward into the Mississippi River and Tennessee Valley by the early to mid-week, shower and storm chances will make a gradual return to the area. Still some discrepancies among long term guidance this far out, thus, finer details remain unknown at this time. Overall, probability of precipitation increases to around 20-40% Mon-Wed, with potential drier and cooler air filtering in by the latter half of the week.

&&

.AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Thu Oct 2 2025

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the 18Z TAF cycle. Winds will be from the ESE around 10kts, with the occasional gusts up to 15kts during the afternoon hours.
