...New 00Z Aviation Discussion...

.SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Tuesday) Issued at 148 PM EDT Mon Sep 15 2025

- No hazardous weather is anticipated in Georgia this weekend.

- Expect dry weather and partly cloudy skies.

Current satellite loop shows some fair weather CU developing across the Southeastern U.S as the large high pressure ridge continues to dominate the weather pattern down the eastern seaboard. There is also a closed low center spinning off the Carolina coast. This low center is expected to move onshore late tonight near the Nags Head, NC region and stay over eastern NC Tuesday. This low will pull in some moisture around its backside that will push into NE GA Tonight into Tuesday. With the ridge in place only expecting increased clouds across North and portions of central GA but there is a very small chance we see and isolated shower or two through Tuesday evening. This low center moves NE Tue night into Wed.

Temperatures will remain steady with nearly identical diurnal trends expected Today and Tuesday. Afternoon highs will peak in the mid 80s to near 90 with morning lows in the lower to mid 60s.

.LONG TERM... (Wednesday morning through next Sunday) Issued at 148 PM EDT Mon Sep 15 2025

- Dry pattern will persist through the end of the week, with a slight chance of rain returning this weekend.

- High temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s, with a slight cool down possible during the weekend.

As the long term period begins on Wednesday, the cutoff upper low and associated surface low will be centered near the NC/VA coast. This feature will weaken and advance northeastward away from the forecast area over the course of the day Wednesday and into Thursday. At this point, weak moisture wraparound on the back side of its associated surface low is expected to be far enough removed from north Georgia that showers and thunderstorms are not expected. Meanwhile, upper ridging over the eastern CONUS will briefly intensify. Subsidence underneath the ridge will help keep a lid on rain chances through much of the remainder of the week. It is worth being aware that the limited precipitation and recent warm/dry days have primed much of the area (especially west Georgia) for a rapid onset of drought conditions in the coming days and weeks.

High temperatures will also climb a couple of degrees each day through the end of the work week as the ridge intensifies, with highs on Wednesday mainly in the low to mid 80s in north Georgia and upper 80s in central Georgia rising to highs in the upper 80s to low 90s across the majority of the area by Friday afternoon. The ridge will begin to slowly push east towards the Atlantic coast on Friday into the weekend as a longwave troughing moves across the northern Great Plains towards the Midwest. Multiple shortwaves will round the base of this trough and advance towards the Southeast. Uncertainty remains with respect to the timing and position of these disturbances. It also appears that moisture transport ahead of these disturbances will be fairly meager until Sunday when the axis of the ridge shifts to the east of the forecast area. Slightly more robust moisture return on Sunday will contribute to PoPs between 20-30% compared to PoPs of 10-20% on Saturday.

Late Saturday into Sunday, surface high pressure associated with the ridge will move across New England towards the Atlantic coast. Deterministic guidance is becoming more consistent in indicating a wedge of high pressure developing along the Appalachians and spreading into north Georgia, which would contribute to comparatively cooler temperatures on Sunday.
