...New 12Z Aviation Discussion...

.SHORT TERM... (Today through Sunday) Issued at 119 AM EDT Sat Sep 13 2025

Key Messages

- No hazardous weather is anticipated in Georgia this weekend.

- Expect dry weather and plenty of sunshine through Sunday.

Over the Weekend:

A ridge over the Plains and trough along the East Coast will produce mid and upper level subsidence over Georgia this weekend. This will suppress convection and lead to fair skies across the state today and Sunday. Differential heating over the mountains of north Georgia should generate the most bubbly afternoon cumulus field in the state today and a couple of very brief rain showers or sprinkles could between 4 PM and 9 PM today. Any rainfall will be very light (0.03 in or less) and overall coverage will be lower than what we saw on Friday (due to lower surface dewpoints). Lightning is not expected and the odds of rainfall at any given point in the mountains are less than 10%.

Temperatures will remain steady in the region this weekend, with nearly identical diurnal trends expected today and Sunday. Afternoon highs will peak in the mid 80s and morning lows will be in the lower 60s. Modest dewpoints (upper 50 to lower 60s) will make for pleasant evening temperature declines.

.LONG TERM... (Sunday night through Friday) Issued at 119 AM EDT Sat Sep 13 2025

Key Messages:

- Dry pattern continues with no meaningful precipitation potentially through next week.

- Highs in the mid 80s and even low 90s through much of the period.

Weather pattern remains relatively unchanged through the long term period. Conditions remain mostly dry through the period with PWATs below the 50th percentile and limited to no mid/upper level shortwave energy through at least Tuesday. Temperatures through the weekend and into early next week will be in the upper 80s and low 90s.

Models have converged on a solution for the next weeks trough/wave- break with the collapse of the upper level block-like pattern. The solution, appears to be that of the cutoff upper level low over the southeast. This will mean the oppressive heat will likely remain to the west and temperatures will remain elevated but not significantly outside the norm. Expect highs through mid next week in the upper 80s to low 90s. That said, this upper level low may be our next chance at bringing moisture back to the area with even some light PoPs of 10-15% in the eastern CWA Wednesday onward. The big decider on our precipitation chances through next week will be on the track of the cut-off upper level low. The two solutions are as follows: 1.) the upper level low encounters stronger forcing via the subtropical jet and progresses eastward taking the bulk of the moisture and upper level support with it or 2.) the upper low gets trapped under the wavebreak and regresses westward underneath the polar ridge dragging moisture out of the Atlantic. These can be thought of as a dry and wet solutions respectively with PoPs resulting almost entirely from solutions with a regressive upper level low. The difference in PWATs with the two scenarios is significant. The dry scenario looks to keep PWATs near 1.0" while the wetter solution brings values >1.5". At minimum a few showers are possible in the eastern CWA Tuesday onward, though accumulations will likely be minimal.
