.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Thursday night...A ridge of high pressure will remain over the region through the short term. Breezy southeast winds expected during the afternoons on Tuesday and Wednesday through the I-84 corridor in Baker County, and the Treasure Valley to the Magic Valley. Elsewhere, breezy southeast winds mainly on the ridgetops during the day with light winds at night. Temperatures warm to around 10 degrees above normal on Wednesday and continue through Thursday. A dry cold front moves across WA and northern ID Thursday and brings increased west-northwest winds late Thursday.
.LONG TERM...Friday through Tuesday...Broad ridging behind a closed low over CA/NV is expected to slowly build into the upper Great Basin and SE OR/SW ID through Friday and into the weekend, returning a slight warming trend. Peak valley temperatures are expected to climb back up into the mid 80s Saturday and Sunday. The closed low off CA/NV is expected to stall throughout Saturday before moving NE`ward as a longwave trough on Sunday, steering some monsoonal moisture off the Four Corners region into the area. This will favor isolated showers/thunderstorms, mainly over higher elevations and the lower Magic Valley, late Sunday into Monday. A strong upper low over the Gulf of Alaska is expected to dig into the Northwest coast through Monday and Tuesday, bringing higher chances for showers/thunderstorms throughout the area early next week. Considerable uncertainty remains over the timing and intensity of the precipitation carried over by this incoming trough.
