Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 1227 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

...New AVIATION...

.MESOSCALE UPDATE... Issued at 704 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Updated the forecast elements through tomorrow afternoon, but no major adjustments were made. High pressure across the eastern CONUS is still the prevailing influence, but an upper-level disturbance interacting with an easterly surface wave will bring a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms to the Gulf Coast areas tomorrow. /NF/

.DISCUSSION... Issued at 1244 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Tonight-Tuesday:

Clear skies with comfortable temperatures are expected over the next couple of days. Trough pattern continues to move eastward, limiting rain chances across majority of the area and keeping northerly winds across the area. SE MS could see an isolated chance (15-20%) for rain Tuesday afternoon as a weak disturbance moving over the area. These rain chances will decrease shortly after sunset. Highs are expected to reach the mid/upper 80s with lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

Wednesday-next Sunday:

Persistent clear conditions are expected through the rest of the period. Ridging pattern will migrate towards the southeast CONUS, causing high temperatures to start in the upper 80s/near 90s, reaching the mid/upper 90s by the end of the forecast period. Overnight lows are expected to range in the 70s. Little (less than 5%) to no rain chances are expected for the remainder of the period. /SW/

.AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1226 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

VFR flight categories will overall prevail at area TAF sites over the next 24 hours. Some patchy shallow ground fog can`t be ruled out at sites towards day break. This could result in temporary drops in visibilities, at sites where observed, to MVFR/IFR status for a brief period of time. Such fog will quickly erode after sunrise. A weak wave along the gulf coast could yield an isolated shower or storm at namely KHBG or KPIB this afternoon, but overall coverage is currently too low to include in this 06Z TAF package. Winds overnight will be light from the northeast to calm. Winds will increase to between 5-8 knots from the east southeast by late morning. /19/
