.DISCUSSION... Issued at 213 PM CDT Fri Sep 26 2025
A surface high pressure is centered over the Middle Mississippi Valley and extends across the Central Plains. Aloft, the trough has almost fully exited the region to the east with a stout ridge building in over the Plains. This setup is leading to mostly sunny skies, light southerly winds, and slightly above normal temperatures. Afternoon highs today will range from 81-85 degrees. Normal highs for this time of year range between 78-80 degrees.
An extended period of dry weather with near to slightly above normal temperatures is expected through the weekend and next week. For this weekend, the ridge will continue to build over the Plains and will remain unmoving between two cutoff upper lows that are situated over the Desert Southwest and the Southeast. High temperatures this weekend will reach into the middle 80s for much of the area. Overnight lows will remain in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees.
Then, for the early to middle part of next week, a deep trough will push into the Pacific Northwest which will nudge the cutoff low in the Southwest into the Plains states. This will bring temperatures on Monday down closer to normal with highs in the lower 80s. A secondary upper level impulse will traverse the region on Wednesday helping to maintain near normal temperatures through the end of the week. Neither of these short waves will bring significant rain chances with them as POPs look to remain under 10%.
