.DISCUSSION... Tonight through Sunday: The Low is tracking off the coast of southern Oregon and is pushing a shortwave through northern Oregon. The wave will continue to move north through tonight. It will begin to impact the Inland Northwest in the next couple of hours. It will bring light showers and isolated thunderstorms. Confidence is fairly low on which areas will be impacted by the thunderstorms. One concern are the winds ahead of the wave. Some models are showing winds sustained in the teens with gusts near 30 to 35 MPH. While the shower chances increase across the region, the amounts are not expected to be much for the most of the lowland locations with a few hundredths at most. It will hopefully bring better air quality as the rain and wind mix out the smoke.

Monday through Friday: The Low will slowly move South of the Inland Northwest through the period. It will continue to pump moisture and bring widespread shower chances through the Friday. Precip amounts range from a tenth or two for the lowlands and a quarter to 3 quarters of an inch for the higher terrains. Ensembles support isolated thunderstorm threat. With this pattern, temperatures will moderate to season normals. Highs will be in 70s and low 80s. Overnight lows will be in the 50s. /JDC

.AVIATION... 06Z TAFS: Low-level smoke has improved across portions of Eastern WA and the lower Idaho Panhandle as southwest winds increased this evening. Locations like Spokane, Coeur D Alene, Pullman, and Lewiston have achieved 6SM or greater. With steady southerly winds overnight, there is low confidence for conditions to deteriorate and is captured in the HRRR near surface smoke model. The disturbance lifting northward is also trending weaker with time and showers were removed from Spokane Area overnight. In Central WA, there will be scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms with the highest risk for lightning over the Cascades. On Sunday, the threat for isolated thunderstorms will over the Cascades and northern mountains with a second area stretching from NE Oregon into the Central Panhandle Mountains of Idaho. A few storms could be strong with hail and gusty winds. Omak, Colville, and Bonner Ferry, and Lewiston come with a 30% probability to impacted.

FORECAST CONFIDENCE AND/OR ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: There is low confidence if visibilities will drop again at Spokane-Pullman which has experience improvement. There is moderate confidence for some improvement at Moses Lake but lower for Wenatchee given persistent NW winds which will transport upstream smoke. As for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, confidence is moderate for storms to remain in the northern mountains and in the vicinity of Lewiston. Pullman comes with a 10-20% chance and may need to be added if trends are further north. /sb
