991 FXUS65 KGGW 242025 AFDGGWArea Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 225 PM MDT Wed Sep 24 2025
.DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES:
- Slightly cooler temperatures tomorrow and Friday before much above average temperatures return this weekend
- Fire weather concerns today will increase through the hottest part of the afternoon and will return this weekend
- Models are slowly starting to increase agreement on precipitation by next week
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: A shortwave trough aloft will flatten the ridge enough tonight to allow a weak cold front through the forecast area with somewhat cooler temperatures on Friday. Zonal flow over northern Montana and Canada will keep the region dry and warm. A more active weather pattern beginning early next week may bring chances for precipitation to the region by Wednesday. Models are beginning to suggest the low off the California coast dissipating Sunday, allowing polar jet to shift southward bringing more seasonable temperatures and increased moisture.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Increased winds with a mix of the NBM and NBM 90 for Day 1. Increased Day 2 high temperature with AdjMavBC to better match with neighbors. There is high confidence a Lake Wind Advisory will be needed for Thursday night into Friday.
