Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 1005 PM PDT Sun Sep 7 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

* A drying trend is expected this week as flow becomes more westerly. Relatively cooler temperatures will also overspread the region by mid week.

* Periods of breezy southwest winds through mid week.

.DISCUSSION...Through next Saturday.

Isolated thunderstorms have been developing this afternoon over the higher terrain of Mohave County as residual monsoon moisture and decent CAPE remains. Due to the lack of any upper support, these storms will continue to mainly develop over the terrain and propagate northeast. Even with the overall decrease in PWAT, the threat of localized isolated flash flooding will still exist through sunset. Storms that are able to form west of the Colorado River will have higher DCAPEs to work with, so the threat of gusty outflow winds are possible this afternoon.

An area of low pressure will move into the Pacific Northwest Monday bringing a drier southwest flow to the region. Most of the area will remain dry, but some isolated storms will still be possible across far eastern Mohave County. The remainder of the area will see sunny skies along with some breezy winds. As the trough continues to moved inland, temperatures become 5-10 degrees below seasonal normals by midweek. This means highs in the low 90s to upper 80s for Las Vegas. The drier air will also bring more relief overnight with cool morning lows, including temperatures in the low 70s in Las Vegas by midweek. Temperatures may start to increase again towards next weekend as the low exits east and heights aloft begin to rise.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Southwest winds tonight will generally remain around 8KT, with lighter winds possible early Monday morning. Breezy south to southwest winds are expected again Monday late morning through the afternoon, with gusts to around 20KT expected. The strongest gusts should be after 20Z. Winds are expected to diminish after sunset Monday, but will remain elevated around 10KT. VFR conditions with temperatures under 100F expected through the TAF period.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 06Z Forecast Package...North winds will continue to push smoke into the Owens Valley tonight. Moderate confidence in the BIH TAF as visibility restrictions and occasional low CIGs due to smoke continue through the night. Improvement in conditions is possible Monday morning, but more likely in the afternoon after 18Z when southeast winds return. Smoke and impacts may return Monday evening as winds turn west then north and push smoke back into the area. Otherwise, VFR conditions expected overnight across the region with typical overnight wind patterns persisting. South to southwest winds return Monday afternoon with gusts 20-25KT through 03z with winds then decreasing to less than 10KT overnight.
